WandaVision Episode 5 puts aside any doubt by confirming that Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, could have beaten Thanos alone in Avengers: Endgame.
WandaVision confirms that Scarlet Witch could have beaten Thanos in Avengers: Endgame all alone, if he didn’t call for reinforcements. Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe began, comic book readers debated who the strongest Avenger (and superhero) was, and that conversation continued in the big-screen versions of these characters. Thor often claims he’s the strongest Avenger, but it was the Hulk who was needed to perform the snap. End of Game, bringing everyone back to life.
Thor and Hulk’s strengths were put to the test in Thor: Ragnarok, but despite winning one of them, Captain Marvel was widely regarded as the strongest Avenger – that is, until Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige confirmed in 2019 that it was in fact Scarlet Witch who could beat them all. This was proven in Endgame, when Thanos’ time in 2014 traveled to the present day and fought the Avengers outside of their compound. Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America tried to beat Thanos on their own, but neither of them stood a chance against him. When the rest of the Avengers returned, Wanda Maximoff trapped Thanos using his powers and could have killed him, but was stopped by a bombing raid from Thanos’ ship.

While it was strongly implied that Wanda could have beaten Thanos on her own, WandaVision now confirms that as a fact. Discussing Wanda’s abilities and how she feeds the magic bubble surrounding Westview in WandaVision Season 1, Episode 5, Darcy Lewis says Wanda has to use an “insane amount of power,” to which Jimmy Woo adds, “far exceeding anything she has shown in the past.” Part of that statement is true, but Monica Rambeau refutes that Wanda wasn’t always so powerful, saying, “She could have taken down Thanos on her own if he hadn’t blitzed,” referring to his ship. ” raining fire “on the Avengers in Endgame’s final battle.
Unlike the comics, Wanda is not a mutant in the MCU, and instead obtained her powers from the Mind Stone. Given that these stones are primordial energy and content that the universe hasn’t seen since the Big Bang, it’s understandable that the characters powered by the Infinity Stones – Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Captain Marvel – are stronger than everybody. But in Wanda’s case, she has both physical and psychic powers, which makes her a force to be reckoned with. She can crush people, separate them and control them by spirit, all of this has been showcased in Wanda’s last three onscreen appearances – Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and WandaVision.
Wanda can manipulate virtually anything – energy and reality being her two primary goals – and using a combination of her abilities, which is why she was able to take on Thanos on her own. She grabbed Thanos in a force field, of sorts, and started crushing him and his seemingly impenetrable armor. And years before that – though a few moments for her – she used her telekinetic powers to destroy the Mind Stone, from which she received her powers just like Vision. Wanda could show new powers in WandaVision, but the strength level of those abilities was still there.
