Second wave of snow to cover the east

A second snowstorm in six days is expected to hit the east on Sunday, hitting an area already affected by a Nor’easter that has buried millions of people in blizzard conditions, forecasters said.

The storm is expected to develop from Richmond, Va., Washington, DC and Philadelphia before hitting New York and New England, according to the National Weather Service, adding that it would produce between 4 and 8 inches of snow, a fraction of that made by the blizzard this week.

“Expect dangerous travel conditions on Sunday with snow and ice re-freezing on roads and untreated surfaces Monday morning,” the weather service said.

New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo on Saturday said Covid-19 vaccinations scheduled for Sunday at state-run sites in Stony Brook and Jones Beach would be postponed due to weather conditions.

“A severe winter storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall, high winds and potentially dangerous conditions that could impact travel and cause power outages on Long Island,” Cuomo said in a statement.

He asked state agencies and snowplows to prepare, adding that parts of New York and Long Island could receive up to 9 inches of snow.

“Drive only when necessary,” the governor’s office said in the statement.

New York City’s emergency notification system Notify NYC has warned residents to prepare for possible power outages by keeping cell phones charged.

The national weather service said the storm would leave the area on Monday.
