Drew Pearson waited 33 years for this.

The Professional Football Hall of Fame announced on Saturday night that Pearson had been elected to the 2021 class. Pearson was the only senior candidate on the ballot.

Pearson believed he would win a bust in the centennial class, which the Hall of Fame announced on Jan.15, 2020. The former Cowboys wide receiver was visibly angry when his name was not among the 13 names read.

Pearson is one of 145 players to win First-Team All-Decades honors from 1960-2000, and one of only two of those 145 First-Team All-Decades players not in the Hall of Fame. The safety of former Packers LeRoy Butler is the other.

Pearson was part of the team in the 1970s.

He caught 489 passes for 7,822 yards and 48 touchdowns, retiring as the Cowboys’ all-time wide receiver. In 1977, he led the league with 870 receiving yards, the last time a player led the league with less than 1,000 receiving yards.
