Reid, the son of head coach Andy Reid, was involved in an accident Thursday night that sent two young children to hospital, authorities said.

According to the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, three vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred on the southbound ramp of Interstate 435 from Stadium Drive near Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Chiefs.

Police said a Chevrolet Impala was disabled on the ramp and the driver called family members for help. His family arrived and parked their Chevrolet Traverse south of the broken down car.

A Dodge Ram truck allegedly driven by Reid then struck the two vehicles.

A 4 and 5-year-old from the Traverse was taken to a local hospital, with the 5-year-old suffering life-threatening injuries, police said. Impala and Traverse drivers were not injured, police said.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, was under investigation for drunkenness, according to the police incident report.

In a search warrant first obtained by CNN affiliate KSHB, police identified Britt Reid as the driver of the Dodge Ram truck. Reid told an intervening officer that he had consumed “two to three” drinks after the officer noticed a smell of alcohol “emanating” from Reid as well as “bloodshot and red” eyes. Reid also told police he is taking the prescription drug Adderall, according to the search warrant.

The officer performed a field field sobriety test and observed signs of impairment, the warrant said. Reid was taken to a local hospital after complaining of stomach pain.

Reid has not been charged with any crime.

According to the search warrant, a computer check carried out by the police revealed that Reid had “several previous DUI contacts”. Police requested and obtained permission from a judge to draw blood from Reid to assist with their investigation.

In a statement, the Kansas City Chiefs said, “The organization has been made aware of a multiple vehicle accident involving outside linebacker coach Britt Reid. We are gathering information, and we are not. will have no further comments at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. “

The Chiefs are scheduled to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Super Bowl LV Sunday in Tampa, Fla. But Reid, the team’s outside linebacker coach, will miss the game, according to a group report on Saturday.

The report added that the team maintained its previous statement on information gathering and said the team had no further comments.
