Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., Called the impending impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump a “partisan farce” and said Democrats’ logic is that Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer should also do facing dismissal.
“If we’re going to criminalize speech, and somehow indict everyone who says, ‘Go fight to hear your voices’, I really mean we should impeach Chuck Schumer then,” said Paul told Fox News Sunday. “He went to the Supreme Court, went to the Supreme Court and said specifically, ‘Hey Gorsuch, Hey Kavanaugh, you’ve started a whirlwind. And you’re going to pay the price.’”

“This inflammatory wording, this violent rhetoric by Chuck Schumer was so bad that the Chief Justice, who never says anything publicly, immediately said that this kind of language was dangerous as a crowd tried to invade the Supreme Court.” Paul continued.
Paul stressed that he opposed the “mistaken notion of voting to annul the election either with Congress or with the vice president” that Trump has pushed. Still, he said there was a “zero” chance Trump would be condemned by the Senate.

“People are going to have to judge for themselves … are we potentially going to sue people for political speech?” Said Paul.
Paul also said that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts’ choice not to preside over the Senate impeachment trial underscored his partisan nature.
“Judge Roberts said no, I’m not coming across the street because you’re not removing the president,” Paul said. “It was a strong signal to all of us that this was going to be a partisan hearing with a Democrat for the presidency, who has already voted for impeachment.”
Senator Patrick Leahy, Acting Senate Speaker, is expected to preside over the trial instead.

“The Constitution says the chief justice presides for a sitting president. So it was up to John Roberts if he wanted to preside with a president who no longer sits, Trump, and he doesn’t want to,” Schumer said. in January.
