OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Appointments are filling up fast at all four vaccination clinics in Douglas County this month.
As of Saturday, most openings for Douglas County residents aged 75 and over are February 20-27 at the Rasmussen Center in Creighton, near 17 and Mike Fahey streets. The Douglas County Department of Health is encouraging people to sign up for these clinics this month.
“Most of the vaccination sites are full, but there are more openings towards the end of February,” the department said in a press release Friday.
Residents are still required to make an appointment with the county health department.
Seniors like Mike Collins received their first dose on Saturday. He says it was easy to register online with the help of a family.
“It’s really quick, it’s over and I already feel better,” Collins said.
Only a few appointments have been booked so far at the Rassmussen Center later this month. Expect students to help you through the registration and vaccination process.
“The fact that [students] even seeing and participating in a process of what it’s like to do a mass immunization clinic is unknown, ”said Dr. Mike Miller, director of emergency medical services and education.
The third and final step of the Rasmussen Center clinic is recovery, which is typical of vaccination sites. Seniors sit down after receiving their dose and students check them for about 15 minutes to make sure they have no side effects or allergic reactions to the vaccine.
Seniors like Mike Collins only get one more dose until they are fully immunized. People should take their second dose before they leave the facility and go home.

The Douglas County Department of Health requires residents to register for appointments. None of the clinics accept walk-in visits.
“Camping” for any unused dose is not allowed. Excessive doses will go to critical infrastructure workers.
