The Iranian leader issued a “final” ultimatum to the United States on Sunday, saying the only way Washington can return to the 2015 nuclear deal signed by world powers is to lift all sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

“Iran has fulfilled all of its obligations under the agreement, not the United States and the three European countries … If they want Iran to return to its commitments, the United States must in practice. .. lift all sanctions, ”Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei said. , according to Reuters, which quoted Iranian state television.

“Then, after having checked whether all the sanctions have been lifted correctly, we will return to full compliance … This is the irreversible and final decision and all Iranian officials have a consensus on this subject,” he continued.

Former President Donald Trump reimposed tough sanctions on Tehran after he pulled out of the deal in May 2018.

The deal brokered by the Obama administration with Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union reduced sanctions against Iran in exchange for reducing its stockpile of enriched uranium needed to fuel nuclear weapons.

But since the US withdrawal, Iran has overstepped the limits of the agreement and started building up its stockpile using advanced centrifuges for enrichment.

President Biden has indicated he would be willing to revert to the nuclear deal if Iran strictly adheres to the terms of the pact, and a group of House Democrats signed a letter in December urging him to do so.

World powers still signatories to the agreement also urged Biden to join the pact.
