“Saturday Night Live” poked fun at the cancellation culture of social media during a “Weekend Update” skit.
Comedy news co-host Colin Jost introduced fictional characters Lowell Fitzroy and Janet Noonan – “social activists” brought up to discuss the impact of cancellation culture.
During the skit, Jost is surprised to learn that the pair actually represent a group calling themselves the Child Cancellation Project.

“We noticed that everyone was canceled and we love it, but there was one group that was apparently immune – the kids,” said Fitzroy, played by “SNL” cast member Mikey Day.
“So we exposed problematic kids and canceled them,” sounded Noonan, played by Heidi Gardner, another cast member.
“That’s right, we call them on Twitter,” Day said before presenting a few examples.

The first ‘canceled’ child was a 5 year old who told a classmate that she did not have a male part.

“Kick him out now @PineTreeElem or you support classroom harassment and support predators like that bile-spitting piece of sourdough bread. #Chasepowellisoverparty,” the group tweeted.
“Let me tell you, he’s going to have a hard time finding a job now,” Gardner sang in “Weekend Update.”

She went on to speak of another “canceled” prep school student, whom the group called homophobic.
“He asked a friend in his playgroup why she had 2 dads and ‘no mom.’ Normalize bigotry, a lot? #FlushThisTurd, ”the group tweeted.
“These kids need to be held accountable, Colin,” Day told the co-host before criticizing a girl for her cultural insensitivity.

The girl was targeted for wearing a Native American costume for Halloween, with feathers in her hair and a fringed poncho.
“She’s white as printing paper and has become a culturally appropriate jerk for Halloween,” the Child Cancellation Project tweeted. “Do your worst, the Internet.”
Social media’s reaction to the sketch, which targets the extremes of cancellation culture, appeared to be mostly positive.
Variety editor-in-chief Brian Steinberg recapped the episode of “SNL” and praised the latest “Weekend Update.”
