The 10th annual “NFL Honors” show featured a lot of surprises on Saturday night, but none of them were bigger than Aaron Rodgers. After being named MVP for the third time in his career, the Packers quarterback used his acceptance speech to casually announce that he is ENGAGED. Rodgers started his speech by talking about the craziness of things in 2020 and then he dropped a gossip bomb that no one saw coming.
“2020 has been definitely a crazy year, filled with a lot of change, growth, amazing memorable moments, 180 straight days scratching my nose hair, playing for very little fans,” Rodgers said . “I got engaged and played some of the best football of my career.”
It’s about as casual as you’ll hear someone when they first announce their engagement on national television. Later in the speech, Rodgers also thanked his “fiancee” without mentioning her by name.
As you can imagine, as soon as Rodgers made the announcement it became a hot topic on Twitter and that’s mainly because no one seemed to have a clue that he was even dating anyone.
Rodgers dated Danica Patrick for just over two years, but the couple broke up at one point in the summer of 2020. If you’re wondering who Rodgers is engaged to, he didn’t tell. , but it’s probably not a coincidence that his people confirmed this week that he was in fact dating someone and that someone was actress Shailene Woodley.
The 37-year-old quarterback has known Woodley for at least July, but it’s unclear how long they’ve been dating. According to E! News, Rodgers and the 29-year-old had tried to form a long-distance relationship and it looks like things turned out better than either one or the other could have imagined.
“They saw each other and were in touch,” an insider told E !. “They keep talking and seeing each other when they can. They are both focused on their careers, but they also take time for each other.
Although Rodgers recently came out of his relationship with Patrick, the quarterback looked like someone who could be in a new relationship for an appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show” in September. During the interview, a caller asked Rodgers why he looked so much happier this season.
“I just have a new love of life and I’ve made decisions and changes and habits that put me in a much better space,” Rodgers said. “And there are just a lot of things that have come together in my life over the past few months that have been really lovely and that have reminded me and given me a perspective – on life and in football – to see things through the most positive lens I possibly can and that’s why I’m having so much fun and it starts with loveand then surround yourself with people you truly value. “
