The Unified Police Department identified the four people killed Saturday’s avalanche at Millcreek Canyon.

Authorities confirmed that there were two groups skiing in the area when the avalanche struck; a group of five and a group of three.

The avalanche swept through the eight individuals. They were all well prepared and had the necessary equipment for the conditions, but only four were able to dig.

The four survivors, all men between the ages of 23 and 38, were hoisted off the mountain by Life Flight helicopters without being injured.

Due to unstable conditions, recovery efforts for the four deaths resumed Sunday morning.

The Unified Police Department has confirmed that the four skiers who died are:

  • Sarah Moughamian, 29, from Sandy,
  • Louis Holian, 26, from Salt Lake City,
  • Stephanie Hopkins, 26, of Salt Lake City, and
  • Thomas Louis Steinbrecher, 23, of Salt Lake City.

This is a developing story.
