‘WandaVision’ episode 5: are Monica and Captain Marvel no longer friends

The path WandaVision finished episode 5 left us with questions citing X, of course. But brief debate of two characters on End of GameThe end of the evening was also confusing.

Halfway through “On a Very Special Episode,” SWORD Captain Monica Rambeau, FBI Agent Jimmy Woo and Dr. Darcy Lewis take a moment to take stock of “The Hex” and the amount of power up. ‘here invisible that Wanda would need to ward off and maintain the artifice. Still, during this back and forth, the things Monica said and did pointed to blanks to fill in – if not a hint of a kept secret.

Wait, what? The first speed bump this dialogue hits is when Monica appears to be offering first-hand testimony on how Avengers: EndgameThe final battle of has been played out. On the one hand, she surely wasn’t there for that; she had just decompressed in her late mother’s hospital room. Second, there is no tomorrow’s “box score” for Avengers battles. There’s no Sports center to summarize. And while at least one podcast I’ve been listening to claimed that a lot of beings were there to launch it post-Snap, I don’t really see them running around to give post-game interviews.

So, what does Monica base this opinion on? “She could’ve taken Thanos out” and “No one else even came close” are strong statements to be made. His so fervent endorsement of Wanda’s abilities, it’s almost like the Sokovian Witch publicist wrote – if not the opinion of Wanda herself. It’s provocative to think for half a second (before the theory collapses) that Wanda blowing up Monica from the Hex is actually escaped prison in the form of a known ally, so as to secretly strategize from the outside. But again, Monica has been too active a character for this theory to hold. Right? Now fan boy Jimmy, we could say, may have first hand access to information on how End of Game fell. Maybe even from Scott Lang, who is surely chatty with a few beers. And as a former SHIELD agent, he may have heard of Carol Danvers’ exploits in the 1990s, though it always seemed like Nick Fury was keeping it all low.

WandaVision Thanos Talk

No, what is most remarkable here is Monica’s reaction to Jimmy’s statement. There is no indication of a warm familiarity with Carol Danvers, although we know this one has existed at least once, in 1995. Monica instead pursues her lips, then looks down, as if she’d rather not talk about Captain Marvel at all. And to be clear:

Brrr. OK, Monica really doesn’t want to talk about Carol Danvers. No more subtext. What could have happened between Carol and BFF’s daughter Maria Rambeau, in the decades that followed Captain Marvel? Is it a question that Captain Marvel 2, in which Teyonah Parris will play again grown up Monica, will answer?

Some other theories and instinctive questions, from episode 5:

Agnes was there the two times Tommy and Billy sprouted, and never had more than a joke to make on the unimaginable. Does she (who she is) facilitate their growth? If this mirage is “all for the kids,” maybe someone is in a rush for them (and the latent powers) to reach maturity?

Wandavision 1x05 recap♦ If one subscribes to the theory that Agnes’ real self is in fact Westview’s aggressor, I guess she forgot / fumbled her line (“Should we take it from above?”) Wanda’s pretend is in control, perhaps to foster the division between her and Vision.

♦ Normally Vision’s colleague, Norm did not speak of Wanda when, coming out of his runaway state, he referred to “her” and the pain “she” was inflicting on him. Norm surely knows Vision’s wife, he would have said her name.

♦ Acting director Heyward appears determined to paint Wanda as a “terrorist,” choosing and characterizing behaviors from her past. Easy Theory: Wanda learned Vision’s corpse was poorly experienced, broke in to retrieve it, created and retreated into the Hex as a way to “resuscitate” it, and now Heyward is attempting to get her back. “Weapon” lost – perhaps by enlisting another powerful witch, Agatha Harkness, to infiltrate.

WandaVision Peter♦ This final scene… well, it clearly raises a lot questions, having the X Men The movies version of QuickSilver / Pietro Maximoff appears at his “stinky sister” Wanda’s doorstep, instead of the MCU version played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Yes, Darcy has observed that Wanda’s twin has been “recast”, but will she have anything to observe beyond that? Does Darcy see “this guy from american horror story”Playing Pietro? Will a facial recognition scan spit out a report about an event from one of the X Men movies? Or will he register as just a foreigner?
