UPDATE (4:45 p.m. Sunday): With snow falling, all winter storm warnings and watches across New Jersey were canceled by the National Weather Service.
With snow already falling at a steady rate in parts of New Jersey on Sunday morning and more snow on the way Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service has active winter storm warnings in 16 counties and winter weather advisories in force in the rest of the state.
Here’s the full list of storm alerts, county by county, and the time each alert is due to expire. (An explanation of the meanings of the warnings and cautions can be found below the list.)

What do these weather alerts mean
A winter storm warning is issued when a storm is expected to produce heavy snow or heavy ice accumulations. The exact criteria vary by region of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.
During a 12-hour storm, like this one, storm warnings are triggered when the snow forecast begins at 5 inches across southern Jersey, along the eastern Jersey coast and across the Philadelphia metro area. In the northern half of the Garden State, a snow forecast of 6 inches or more will trigger a winter storm warning.
A winter weather advisory is issued when a storm is expected to produce a combination of winter conditions – such as snow, sleet, freezing rain, or mixed precipitation – that present a hazard but do not meet the warning criteria. The National Weather Service typically issues an advisory if 2 inches or more of snow is forecast in southern Jersey and 3 inches of snow in northern Jersey.
