Over the weekend, The New York Times ran a documentary about pop star Britney Spears and her career titled “Framing Britney Spears.” The artist has been in fashion on social networks for weeks under the hashtag “Free Britney”.
According to the New York Times, Spears has not been able to fully live his own life for 13 years, stuck in court-sanctioned guardianship. The documentary examines what audiences might not know about the pop star’s legal battle with her father over control of his estate.

As the film provided an in-depth explanation of the ups and downs of his career, it also touched on Spears’ relationship with fellow artist Justin Timberlake. One of the big takeaways from the documentary was that Timberlake played a huge role in Spears’ plunge. The two had a very public breakup, and Timberlake pushed the tale that Spears cheated on him.
Spears and Timberlake dated for four years before going their separate ways in 2002. The former NSYNC member would go on to write his hit “Cry Me a River”, which reportedly dealt with Spears’ infidelity.
On Twitter, fans seem to agree it’s time for Timberlake to answer for his crimes.
Many fans also called Diane Sawyer, who interviewed Spears after the breakup and asked her what she had done wrong.
The documentary, which airs on FX on Hulu, focuses on those close to Spears and the lawyers linked to her tutelage now as they reassess her phenomenal career and her brutal downfall as she battles her father in the court to find out who should control his life.
The film managed to resurface a lot of fan contempt for the former bandleader, as he also played a role in the descent of Janet Jackson’s career.
After the film’s release, an article by Kathy Campbell of US Weekly appeared on Saturday claiming that Spears had no grudges against her ex-boyfriend. The documentary is currently available on FX streaming Hulu.
