Apparently everyone who watched the Senate trial earlier today, including Trump, was puzzled by Castor’s opening remarks, which touched on topics as disparate as ancient Greek democracy and the “extraordinary” gallantry of US senators. Trump, in particular, reportedly found their performance disappointing, particularly in the wake of the House indictment officials’ searing video montage of the January 6 riots.
Even Hannity, a frequent Trump ally who spent his Tuesday show denigrating the impeachment effort, complained about the performance of the defense team. He conducted his interview by asking about the lawyers’ wordy statements, only to get Schoen to answer stone-faced about the merits of impeachment in general.
Hannity must have pushed Schoen on this at the end of the interview, saying that “some conservatives called me up and said, ‘Whoa, we need someone to hit harder here.’
Referring to Castor and his law firm, Schoen replied: “There is a lot to say, and I know they are very committed to fighting what they see.”
