The Senate voted on Tuesday to move forward with former President Trump’s unprecedented impeachment trial after listening to nearly four hours of argument over whether it is constitutional to try an already dismissed president of its functions.
A handful of GOP senators crossed party lines on Tuesday, voting to affirm the constitutionality of the trial.

The six Republicans who joined Democrats in voting to continue the trial were Sens. Susan Collins from Maine, Bill Cassidy from Louisiana, Lisa Murkowski from Alaska, Mitt Romney from Utah, Ben Sasse from Nebraska and Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania.
The vote was 56-44.
