Logan, the 2017 X Men The spin-off that served as Hugh Jackman’s final go-around as Wolverine did not take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, as a new fan theory suggests, this may explain how mutants end up in the MCU. Or at the very least, explain where they came from. If that’s true, it would add a new dimension to director James Mangold’s film.
The theory was shared recently on Reddit. Posted in the MCU Theories subdirectory, it comes from the user’s electron shock. He essentially postulates that the mutants were transported to the MCU from the Fox. X Men universe. Given some of what we’ve seen recently, in particular WandaVision, that seems logical. He also explains that Charlex Xavier was not responsible for the murder of several of his mutant counterparts in the “Westchester Incident” as mentioned in Logan. The theory reads as follows.
“Professor X did not kill the XMen as described in Logan. They were drawn into the MCU and Professor X was blamed in the confusion. The ripping apart of the multiverse is also what “broke” Xaiver. “
Warning: the rest of this article will contain spoilers for WandaVision. Read at your own risk. The most recent episode of WandaVision contained a bomb cameo in the form of Quicksilver. But not the Aaron Taylor-Johnson Quicksilver we met Avengers: Age of Ultron. Instead, it was Evan Peters’ Quicksilver from X-Men: Days of Future Past and Dark phoenix. This has devastating consequences. As of this writing, it’s still unclear how Quicksilver got to the MCU. But this theory explains, to some extent, where it came from. And, furthermore, that the effects of mutants teleported to the MCU from an alternate universe will have consequences in that universe.
As for the Westchester incident, for those in need of a refresher, this was a major plot point in Logan. Professor X has a degenerative brain disease which has caused him to have seizures. We got a glimpse of that in the Las Vegas scene. With the right medication, these events can be kept at bay. But the incident in question, which we never really see on screen, is mentioned several times. Many mutants died. Or at least it appears like this. This theory, on the contrary, suggests that the mutants, in one way or another, were drawn into the MCU at that time. But Charles had to shoulder the blame and the guilt that came with it.
Whether or not this theory holds water remains to be seen. What we do know for sure is that the Multiverse is coming to MCU Phase 4, and WandaVision tore it already. It will, moreover, be explored in the untitled Spider-Man 3, which will bring back characters from previous versions of the Spider Man franchise, as well as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Both films are currently in production. So, according to fan theories, this one is at least plausible. This news comes to us via Reddit.
