CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ravens take on Orlando Brown Jr. said earlier this offseason that he’s a left tackle. But he was the right tackle in Baltimore because of Ronnie Stanley’s play.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that Brown wanted to be traded so he could have a shot at playing left tackle.
Brown has started 42 regular season games since his third round selection in 2018. He slipped to the left tackle when Stanley injured his ankle at the end of the season on November 1.
Stanley signed a five-year contract extension worth nearly $ 100 million, essentially locking him up in the left tackle for the foreseeable future.
Texas President Jamey Rootes to resign
The ongoing dysfunction in the Texan organization does not appear to be going away anytime soon. On Wednesday morning, team president Jamey Rootes resigned his post. Rootes had been with the organization for over 20 years on the business side.
Pro Football Talk reported that part of Rootes’ decision to step down was the team not hiring the GM candidate recommended by the team’s search committee.
Much of the blame for the problems with the team has been centered on Jack Easterby, a former chaplain for the Chiefs who is now the executive vice president of football operations for the Texans.
ESPN’s Sarah Barshop noted that last week the Texans sacked their director of football administration, equipment manager and vice president of football operations.
This is all happening as Deshaun Watson reportedly requested a trade in Houston. New Texans general manager Nick Caserio said in late January that the team had “no interest” in trading Watson.
Taylor Heinicke gets two-year extension with Washington
Washington got a surprisingly strong playoff performance from Taylor Heinicke in a 31-23 loss to future Super Bowl champion Buccaneers.
The team rewarded him signing it again for a new deal Wednesday.
Ian Rapoport reported that the extension was two years and $ 8.75 million, as well as incentives based on the number of games he starts.
Heinicke had only one start to his career before the playoff game. But he played well, with 306 yards and a touchdown.
Washington started three more quarterbacks in 2020. Dwayne Haskins was the Week 1 starter, but was released later in the season. Kyle Allen and Alex Smith suffered injuries during the season.
Buccaneers host boat parade for Super Bowl champions
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Buccaneers had to find a unique way to celebrate the team’s Super Bowl victory.
They did so by participating in a boat parade on Wednesday.
Fans could attend the parade on boats or along the Tampa Riverwalk if they wore masks and practiced social distancing.
Tom Brady showed up for the parade in a boat that cost $ 2 million.
Brady was having a lot of fun on the parade as well, including throwing the Lombardi Trophy onto another boat, as you can see in the tweets below.
