Gina Carano “is currently not employed by Lucasfilm,” the company said in a statement Wednesday after controversy erupted over the star’s “The Mandalorian” star’s social media posts. UTA also abandoned her as a customer, Variety confirmed.
“Gina Carano is currently not employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans to be employed in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. “Nonetheless, his social media posts denigrating people because of their cultural and religious identity are odious and unacceptable.”
Carano shared several offensive posts on his Instagram Stories Tuesday evening, including one that compared contemporary political differences to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany.
“The Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children,” Carano wrote on Instagram. “Because the story is edited, most people today don’t realize that in order to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first forced their own neighbors to take them. hate it just because they were Jews. How is it different from hating someone for their political views? The post is from another Instagram account.
In another post, Carano shared a photo of a person wearing multiple cloth masks with the caption “Meanwhile in California …”
Both posts had disappeared from Carano’s Instagram by noon on Wednesday. Other articles, including one in which Carano wrote “Jeff Epstein did not kill himself”, have remained.
The hashtag #FireGinaCarano began circulating on Twitter on Wednesday in response to his posts. Many users have tagged Lucasfilm and parent company Disney in their posts.
Carano is no stranger to controversy on social media. In November, she was criticized for making fun of people who specified preferred pronouns when she updated her Twitter bio with “bip / bop / boop,” which she later deleted.
In December, Lucasfilm announced “Rangers of the New Republic,” a direct spinoff from “The Mandalorian” that seemed to suggest a path for its character Cara Dune, a former rebellious trooper who had become Marshall for the New Republic on the series. Lucasfilm has yet to announce a cast for the new series, however.
