New Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn isn’t impressed with how the defense he inherited played last year.
Glenn said that when he watched the Lions 2020 season movie he saw a group of players who have the potential to play much better than them – if they get better training.
“You have a group of athletes, you train them. Tell them what to do, ”Glenn said.
Glenn said he and head coach Dan Campbell agreed that the Lions defense looks confused in 2020.
“When you look at the players, I think Dan said it, that the players looked confused, I think without confidence,” Glenn said. “What we need to do is we need to change the narrative of their thinking so that they can play confidently and play fast. What we’re going to do as staff is our # 1 job, getting the players to play fast, giving them confidence and letting these guys let go. We don’t need a lot of thinking there. We just want the guys to understand, “What’s my job? Where should my eyes be, coach? And what should I do? And they will play fast and play with confidence.
It’s not exactly a resounding endorsement of the training of former head coach Matt Patricia and his staff, but it’s an indication that Glenn doesn’t think he’s got as much of a rebuilding effort as some. would think so. Glenn thinks the Lions can be a better team, and it’s his job to provide better training.
