Former Jets GM believes Bill Belichick will trade for Deshaun Watson

The Patriots and Deshaun Watson: One of the most important storylines of the NFL offseason is quarterback Deshaun Watson, revealing he wants to leave Houston.

Whether or not the 25-year-old can get a trade from the Texans, a former NFL general manager believes it could work well for the Patriots.

During a segment on “Get Up!” Of ESPN, Needham native Mike Tannenbaum – who was the Jets general manager from 2006-2012 – made an offseason forecast worthy of the show’s segment title: “Bold Predictions.”

“The New England Patriots are going to have Deshaun Watson,” Tannebaum said to a wave of disbelief from his colleagues. Part of its rationale, Tannenbaum explained, was the connection in front offices.

Newly installed Texans general manager is Nick Caserio, former director of player personnel for the Patriots.

“Nick Caserio is just from the Patriots, they know each other well,” Tannenbaum said of Caserio and Bill Belichick. “If I get Deshaun Watson – with all these other opt-outs coming back – I’m going to go to the Super Bowl. I’ll beat the Kansas City Chiefs. Bill Belichick is a big contender, he will do whatever it takes. We have Deshaun Watson, we’re back in the Super Bowl.

Tannenbaum closed his prediction with one more bombshell: a Super Bowl game against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.

“New England, Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl next year in LA,” he said. Talk about a must-see game.

Naturally, the statement elicited a response.

“You can’t expect me to continue,” Jets host Mike Greenberg joked. “If that is to happen, for twenty years I have been waiting for Brady to get out of [AFC East], and now all of a sudden you’re telling me … if Deshaun Watson ends up in New England, I’m telling you now, I’m done.

Still, the odds are actually in favor of the Greenberg Jets. Equipped with the second overall pick in the 2021 Draft (as well as a second pick in the first round that was obtained in a trade with the Seahawks), New York was recently listed as the favorite to land Watson.

The Patriots, despite Tannenbaum’s prediction, are only listed as the seventh team most likely to end up with the 2020 NFL passing yardage leader.

Tuukka Rask’s humor (and harmless) but still a little terrifying: With less than a minute to go for the Bruins-Rangers game on Wednesday night, the score was tied 2-2.

Apparently that was news for Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask, who patina towards the Boston bench hoping to have an extra skater on the ice. His teammates and coaches beckoned her desperately to come back, and Rask could only laugh at his mistake.

During the post-game press conference after Boston’s victory, Rask offered a comedy about the incident:
