Apple TV + acquires ‘sci-fi audience drama’ about murderous robot doll

More sci-fi is heading to Apple TV +, according to a new video and report. Apple released a “First Look featurette” video and associated augmented reality app for its alternative history space program drama For all mankindseason two, and the report claims that a drama about a robot accused of murder will begin production soon.

The latter will be a feature film titled Trolley and is based on a short story written by Elizabeth Bear. According to Deadline, Apple acquired the film “following a bidding war” involving four bidders, including several studios and another streaming company.

The film is described as a sci-fi version of a courtroom drama, with the hypothesis that a robotic doll murders its owner but “shocks the world by claiming that she is not guilty and in doing so. asking for a lawyer ”.

Florence Pugh (Marcella, Little woman) played the lead role and the screenplay will be written by Drew Pearce (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Iron man 3) and Vanessa Taylor (Game of thrones, The shape of water, Divergent). No director has yet been attached.

As for Battlestar Galactica Ronald D. Moore’s showrunner For all mankind, the new video featurette fleshes out the world of 1980s alternative history that last month’s trailer first featured. It’s filled with scenes of militarized astronauts on the moon and speeches from President Ronald Reagan, and it features returning actor Joel Kinnaman, also known for his lead role in Netflix’s first season. Science fiction is fast becoming a mainstay of the Apple TV + line. In addition to the above, the streaming platform was launched with the critical post-apocalyptic series See with Jason Momoa, and Apple also plans to create a TV series based on the revered Isaac Asimov Foundation series, with Mad Men, Chernobyl, The crown, and Terror actor Jared Harris.
