Marcus Foligno was not feeling energetic during his last hockey game on Jan. 30 against the Colorado Avalanche.

But it was the Wild’s ninth game in 17 days since the start of the season, so the team’s more physical forward felt the busy schedule made him feel exhausted and drained of his typical vigor.

Foligno returned from the game, fell asleep and woke up in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

“I didn’t get a good night’s sleep, I just felt a little sore and chills a little, but I really didn’t think about it,” Foligno said. “I just thought maybe I was tired. Then I woke up (in the morning) and texted (head coach) John Worley and said, ‘Look, I’m not feeling well.’ “

Worley already knew why he wasn’t feeling well.
