Representative Stefanik says ‘dam is breaking’ against Governor Cuomo after nursing home cover up

Representative Elise Stefanik, RN.Y., said Monday that a federal investigation into New York’s handling of data relating to coronavirus deaths in nursing homes must move forward immediately.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D., and his administration have come under heavy criticism for not fully reporting the numbers after Cuomo ordered nursing homes to take in residents hospitalized with COVID-19. Backlash over the policy, which aimed to free up hospital space, intensified after an aide to Cuomo admitted that the administration withheld data from the Justice Department.

“The dam is breaking, you are witnessing an overwhelming bipartisan outcry. Democrats … must grow a backbone and stand up for what is right,” she said on “The Faulkner Focus,” calling Cuomo “America’s worst governor” at handling the pandemic.

CUOMO HELP TELLS NY DEMOCRAT ADMINISTRATION HIDDEN CARE HOMES DATA TO KEEP FROM TRUMP DOJ: REPORT

REPRESENTATIVE. ELISE STEFANIK: “You have both Democrats and Republicans calling for an independent investigation. I want to see subpoenas at the state level, the Senate and the State Assembly should issue subpoenas immediately , and I want the Department of Justice to launch an independent investigation. ”“ We know from the partial transcript released by the governor’s secretary that justice has been obstructed.

It is not about politics but about people’s lives. What was so shameful about the transcript that was released was that the governor’s secretary didn’t apologize for the death toll, apologize for the politics, but apologize for the political fallout for Democrats. It’s a shame. President Biden must keep his promise that the Justice Department will be independent of political pressure from Governor Cuomo, who is a Democrat. But the Ministry of Justice and law enforcement, this lawsuit must go ahead immediately.

Less than a month ago, state senators blocked subpoenas and blocked Republicans in the state Senate who wanted to put the brakes on [Cuomo’s] emergency powers. Now the dam is breaking. You see an overwhelming bipartisan outcry … Everyone knows Governor Cuomo is a tyrant. They intimidate people within their own party. This is more important. We are talking about lives lost here, so these Democratic senators and the Democratic Congressional delegation need to grow a backbone and develop a little political courage and stand up for what is right, for the people of this state who deserve justice. So we will see these subpoenas and this investigation should be launched immediately. No apologies after the bombshell last week.

Last week, Gov. Secretary Melissa DeRosa reportedly said the Cuomo administration feared data on COVID-19 deaths could be “used against us” by the Justice Department amid its federal investigation launched against four states regarding deaths in nursing homes, including New York.

On Friday, DeRosa sought to clarify her comments, saying she was “explaining that when we received the DOJ’s investigation, we were to temporarily cancel the Legislature’s request to deal with the federal request first.”
