The Trail Blazers extended their current winning streak to four games following Sunday’s victory over the Mavericks. In Dallas, the Blazers faced a remarkable challenge of uneven refereeing in the first period. After the game, Damian Lillard spoke to Trail Blazers digital reporter Casey Holdahl about the struggles.
Lillard explained to Holdahl that it was as if every call went against the Blazers in the first half.
“We just felt like it was a really bad first half for us,” said Damian Lillard. “We played well to start the game, but it seemed like we couldn’t do anything right. Everything was dirty here, dirty there. And then we went down and felt like we didn’t have a whistle. It was like “Okay, now what?”
Following a frustration-induced technical foul and half-time break, Lillard highlighted how the Blazers changed their mindset in the second half.
“So we walked out of the locker room and it was like we weren’t going to complain, we’re not going to come out here and act like something was taken away from us,” Lillard said. “If we want to win this game, we have to take it. I think that was the energy we needed to start the second half and ultimately that’s what changed the game and got us the game.
Lillard would score 23 of his 34 points in the second half. Thanks to their late-game heroics, the Blazers held onto their slim lead in the dying moments of the game.
