Michael van der Veen, a lawyer who represented former President Trump in his second impeachment trial, denounced the media in an interview with CBS News after Trump’s acquittal.

Van der Veen baselessly accused prosecutors of manipulating evidence in the indictment of the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill. “Because they hadn’t done any investigation, they falsified evidence. It’s absolutely shocking,” he said on CBS on Saturday.

Interviewer Lana Zak attempted to clarify Van der Veen’s misleading comments, asking him if he was referring to a “selective editing” of footage of the riot and a tweet according to Trump’s team was shown during the trial that would have been tagged with the wrong year. (The tweet in question was not broadcast during the trial.) “Is this the falsified evidence you’re talking about?” Zak asked.

But Van der Veen then started to complain about the media more generally. “The media are trying to divide this country,” he said. “You crave blood for ratings,” he continued, calling the issues “up” with “slanted coverage”. He removed his microphone and stepped out of the camera.

The Trump administration is widely recognized for its anti-media rhetoric and diatribes against reporters and the media, calling unfavorable coverage “fake news.” Now, some sources claim that Trump intends to build his own digital media network to compete with Fox News.
