The 38-year-old had been staying at the Homewood Suites in Brandon, about 12 miles from Tampa, since Jan.11, according to a press release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office officials said they spoke with members of Jackson’s family on February 10, after calling to report his disappearance. An official report was filed the next day.

Officials last Friday said they located Jackson at the Homewood Suites and spoke to him, according to the press release.

“After assessing Jackson’s welfare, the missing persons case was called off,” the statement said.

Jackson was found dead Monday at 11:30 a.m. by a cleaning lady. There was no apparent sign of trauma.

The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death and officially identify Jackson’s remains based on dental records or DNA, according to the press release.

“Mr. Jackson was a dedicated man who put his family and his community above all else,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement Monday. Football aside, he has touched countless lives through his Jackson In Action 83 Foundation. We shared a passion for supporting military families, and three years ago Jackson was even made an honorary member of parliament by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office to recognize his dedication to the community. “

“He will be sadly missed not only by football fans across the country but also by the people of Hillsborough County who have reaped the rewards of his generous contributions.”

The Chargers, now based in Los Angeles, issued a statement Monday said the team were “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news of Jackson’s death.

“Vincent was a fan favorite not only for his Pro Browl game on the field, but also for the impact it had on the community,” the statement said. “The work he did on behalf of military families through his foundation in the years following his retirement has been an inspiration to all of us.

The Buccaneers, who recently won the Super Bowl, said in a report that Jackson was “an accomplished professional” during his five years with the team.

“Vincent was a dedicated father, husband, businessman and philanthropist, who made a profound impact on our community through his unwavering advocacy for military families, supported by the Jackson in Action 83 Foundation,” indicates the press release.

Jackson has been selected three times to the Pro Bowl and has been nominated four times for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which recognizes players who have made a positive impact in their community, according to the Buccaneers.
