CBS seeks to expand the NCIS franchise outside the contiguous United States.

TVLine has learned that the Eye Network is in the early stages of developing a new iteration of NCIS, it takes place in Hawaii. This would mark the third NCIS spin-off and the fourth NCIS series as a whole, joining Mark Harmon’s star mothership, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans.

A CBS spokesperson declined to comment for this story.

Before the last franchise entry, NCIS: New Orleans, launched in 2014, CBS developed NCIS: red, an offshoot centered around a mobile counterterrorism unit dubbed Red Team. The project – which was set to star as John Corbett, Kim Raver, Scott Grimes, Edwin Hodge and Gillian Alexy – has not made it past the backdoor pilot stage.

The NCIS The franchise originated via a two-part, April 2003 episode of JAG which featured Gibbs by Mark Harmon, DiNozzo by Michael Weatherly, Abby by Pauley Perrette and Ducky by David McCallum. When I David James Elliott and Catherine Bell briefly reprized their roles as Navy Captain “Harm” Rabb Jr. and Lt. Col. Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie on NCIS: THE in 2019, there was a buzz that CBS was testing the waters for a full-fledged revival of the JAG.

Reacting to this scuttlebutt, NCIS: THE Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill said at the time, “I never say anything. It’s really at [CBS]. This is not my call to make.
