The former New York mayor was the face of Trump’s failed attempt to overturn the presidential election results, but his legal work with the former president dates back years.

Tweeter that Giuliani has remained an “ally and friend” and does not represent Trump just because there are no outstanding cases in which he is involved.
Trump had signaled his frustration with Giuliani last month after becoming the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice. He told his staff to stop paying Giuliani’s legal fees, someone familiar with the matter has previously told CNN, although aides were unsure if Trump was serious about his instructions.
Now removed from office and without the protections the presidency has given him, Trump faces multiple criminal investigations, civil inquiries and libel suits by two women accusing him of sexual assault.
Georgian officials said the former president was facing two new inquiries into appeals he had made to election officials to quash the state’s election results.
And Trump faces a criminal investigation in New York City, where the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is investigating whether the Trump organization has violated state laws, such as insurance fraud, tax evasion. or other fraud schemes.
The scope of the investigation is wide, with prosecutors examining, among other things, whether the Trump organization misled financial institutions when applying for loans or violated tax laws by donating a conservation easement on its area called Seven Springs and taking deductions from fees paid to consultants.
The former president has also privately expressed concern over whether he could face charges in the wake of the Jan.6 riot at the U.S. Capitol that he has been accused of incitement to, according to several people.
“He’s worried about it,” an adviser close to Trump told CNN.
Although Giuliani is one of Trump’s fiercest public defenders, his work on behalf of the former president has given rise to his own legal problems.
Democratic Representative Bennie Thompson of Mississippi filed a civil suit on Tuesday accusing Giuliani and Trump of conspiring with far-right groups Proud Boys and Oath Keepers to incite the Jan.6 insurgency.
Giuliani, according to the lawsuit, stirred the crowd by saying to his supporters, “Let’s bring a trial to a fight.”
Additionally, Giuliani faces legal action from two voting technology companies, Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems, related to his months-long adherence to baseless conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.
