Destiny: The Winx Saga will return for a second season, Netflix announced Thursday.
Based on italian magic girl cartoon Winx Club, Destiny: The Winx Saga debuted in January on Netflix. It centered on Bloom (Abigail Cowen), a teenage girl who believed to be human for most of her life before discovering her powerful heritage as a fire fairy. Taken to a magical boarding school, Bloom meets five other fairies: the fairy of vain light, Princess Stella (Hannah van der Westhuysen), the brash water fairy Aisha (Precious Mustapha), the fairy of the spirit surly Musa (Elisha Applebaum) and the brave fairy of the land Terra (Salt of Eliot).
While the original series largely focused on girlfriendships, the live show gave everything a darker and darker overlay. Bloom’s quest to learn more about his past ends up revealing secrets about hidden war crimes and formidable, yet charismatic dictators.
The second season will run for eight one-hour episodes with the main cast returning. Production will begin later this year, but Netflix has not given a release window for Season 2.
