MomAllison Janney’s took to social media to reflect on CBS’s final season announcement.

The channel revealed on Wednesday that the sober comedy will end this spring, with the series finale scheduled for Thursday, May 6 (at 9 / 8c). In a heartfelt Instagram post, Janney thanked the cast and crew, including executive producer Chuck Lorre; current costars Mimi Kennedy, Jaime Pressly, Kristen Johnston, Beth Hall and William Fichtner; and former co-director Anna Faris, who left the show before Season 8.

“Be part of Mom these past eight years – showing the laughter, love and hope that can accompany recovery – has been one of the great honors of my life, ”she wrote. “I want to thank [executive producers] Chuck Lorre, Gemma Baker [and] Nick Bakay, and all the writers… for giving us these wonderfully flawed and adorable characters to bring to life. I miss seeing all your faces. And these incredibly talented actors that I have to play with every day !!! Mimi, Jaime, Kristen, Beth and the coolest man on the planet, Bill Fichtner. And of course Anna Faris. [Director] Jamie Widdoes for your patience, dedication and tremendous skill in steering this ship! ⁣ All our crew, your laughter, your love and your dedication to this show made it a joy to come to work. And last but not least all our extraordinary fans !!! Thank you for all of your support over the years. “

MomThe eighth season marked the first (and now alone) season without Faris, who played Christy, Janney’s on-screen girl. When it was revealed that she was leaving last September, Faris released a statement which read in part: “The last seven years Mom have been some of the most rewarding and rewarding of my career. I’m so grateful to Chuck [Lorre], the writers and my wonderful cast mates for creating a truly wonderful work experience.

Following Faris’ departure, Christy was sent to Georgetown Law School in Washington DC on a full scholarship.

Mom evolved into a dramatically different show than the one that premiered in 2013. The multi-cam originally focused on Christy’s life as a newly sober single mom as she attempted to raise a teenage daughter pregnant, Violet (Sadie Calvano), and one son, Roscoe (Blake Garrett Rosenthal), with help from her previously estranged mother Bonnie (Janney). The show ultimately shifted the attention of Christy’s children (who were excluded from the show entirely) and Christy and Bonnie’s AA group – which includes Marjorie (Kennedy), Jill (Pressly), Wendy (Hall) and Tammy (Johnston) – and Bonnie’s relationship with future husband Adam (Fichtner). Janney is the last remaining regular series of season 1.
