Warner Bros. has scheduled Legendary's "Dune" sci-fi tent for November 20, 2020, a 3D version and Imax.
The star of Aquaman, Jason Momoa, is in negotiations to join the restart of Dune with Timothy Chalamet, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, Bautista Dave, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac and Zendaya. Production is expected to start in the spring in Budapest and Jordan.
"Dune" focuses on the battle for control of the desert planet Arrakis. Chalamet plays Paul Atreides, who is forced to escape to the uncultivated lands, where he eventually becomes the leader of the nomadic tribes.
Denis Villeneuve, director of "Arrival" and "Blade Runner 2049", co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. The film will be produced by Villeneuve, Mary Parent and Cale Boyter. Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull and Kim Herbert will be executive producers.
"Dune" is based on Frank Herbert's 1965 novel. The film is the first title to land on November 20, 2020, the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Warner Bros. Also announced on Friday have set release dates for the film "Blinded by the Light", purchased at the Sundance Festival on August 14, and Nov. 1, from Edward Norton's drama "Motherless Brooklyn." Norton plays a Private investigator trying to solve the murder of his mentor and friend, played by Bruce Willis.
David Lynch directed the first film version of "Dune", released in 1984 and performed by Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides. It was a commercial failure with a gross budget of $ 30 million on a budget of $ 40 million.
