On Friday it was announced that The young and the restless Star Sasha Calle has been cast for Supergirl in the upcoming Flash film by director Andy Muschietti. The announcement came in the form of a video of the call in which Muschietti told Calle she got the part with Muschietti asking Calle if she could fly. Melissa Benoist, who currently plays Supergirl on The CW’s Arrowverse, soon welcomed Calle to the DC Universe in a cute post on Instagram Story noting that “the world needs as many Supergirls as they can get.” Now Calle responds to Benoist’s welcome.
In her response, Calle expressed how much Benoist’s welcome means to her as she and her brother watched every episode of Super girl.
Calle is the last actress to play the iconic superhero and will be the first Latina to take on the role. Muschietti said Deadline that he auditioned over 400 actresses for the role before finally finding Calle, who he said was “meant” for the role.
“I have seen over four hundred auditions,” Muschietti said. “The talent pool was really amazing and it was very difficult to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was meant to play this role.”
Production on the film is slated to begin in April. Barbara Muschietti, a producer of the film as well as the director’s sister, recently shared a post on Instagram teasing the sets for the film being built on one of the sound stages at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, writing, “The fun is inside. “
Flash The film will star Ezra Miller as Barry Allen and will also see appearances by Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck with each actor playing their respective versions of Batman with Muschietti previously recounting it. Vanity Fair that Affleck’s character is the “baseline” before entering the larger story.
“He’s the baseline. He’s part of that unchanged state before we embark on Barry’s adventure. There’s a familiarity there,” Muschietti said. “This movie is a bit of a pivotal point in the sense that it presents a story that involves a unified universe where all of the cinematic iterations we’ve seen before hold true. It’s inclusive in the sense that it says everything you’ve seen exists, and everything you will see exists, in the same unified multiverse. “
Flash is scheduled to hit theaters on November 4, 2022.
