Federal investigators investigating the Jan.6 Capitol riots are examining whether high-level allies of former President Donald Trump, including Roger Stone and Alex Jones, were instrumental in organizing the violence, told reporters on Saturday. The Washington Post first reported that the possible roles on Jan. 6 of Stone, Jones and “Stop the Steal” rally organizer Ali Alexander were being investigated.
The law enforcement source said charges were unlikely, but investigators want to achieve a broad understanding of all possible instigators.
Stone, a longtime adviser to the president, was pardoned by Trump in December following his 2019 conviction for misrepresenting, obstructing and tampering with witnesses. Jones is a right-wing conspiracy theorist known for claiming that the Sandy Hook school shooting did not take place.
Authorities on Friday announced that six other people linked to the far-right Oath Keepers militia had been charged with charges they planned and coordinated with each other in the deadly January 6 attack.
