A former resident of MH survives the attack of a mountain lion in Colorado

A former resident of Mountain Home, now living in Colorado, who survived a mountain lion attack, said he knew he had to do something radical when the young cat's jaw was remained hooked on his wrist while he pounded his head with a rock.

Travis Kauffman, 31, says he put one foot on the cat's neck and held it there while the animal struggled. Eventually, the animal stopped moving and Kauffman pulled his arm and went away. He told reporters Thursday that he had also been trying to stab the animal with twigs, but nothing worked until he stomped on his neck. Once the mountain lion stopped moving and opened his mouth, he said he was able to walk up the hill "and get out the devil from Dodge".

According to a press release published by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Kauffman was reported to have received more than 20 stitches in his face and allegedly suffered bruises and wounds to his neck and legs without puncture.

Kauffman, who has been living with his girlfriend in Fort Collins for five years and works in environmental consulting, enjoys outdoor activities such as skiing, mountain biking and running.
