I love android 12 new wallpaper theme idea

A supposedly early Android 12 leak showed an idea we all hoped we wouldn’t imagine. We thought we would see Google testing a wallpaper-based theme engine that would stylize parts of the Android system UI by pulling colors from the wallpaper on your home screen. In fact, Google is indeed working on such a feature and the first looks are here.

Discovered by the developer @ kdrag0nwe can see several examples of how Google will use wallpapers to change the color of certain areas of the system in Android 12. Internally named “monet” and only available behind the scenes in Android 12 Developer Preview 1, the screenshots screenshots show how a wallpaper will affect the notification shade and its various elements, as well as the color tone for the entire Android Settings menu.

In this first example, a green screen background is used on the (new) lock screen, which then tints the notifications a greenish color. Swiping the notification area down also shows a green frosty background, a green color change in the quick settings titles, and a green brightness slider at the top.

For additional examples, @ kdrag0n showed several wallpapers and the accompanying notification shadow with Google’s new idea for a system theme. Below you have themes drawing both blue and purple as an accent or highlight color.

Finally, here is the change we should see in an area like settings. The main settings page may look like the ‘Silky Home’ user interface that we showed you how to activate last week, but as you dive into specific sections, the background of each one changes accordingly. the color that the system has extracted from your wallpaper. Below are a handful of examples of how Google plans to shade settings areas and even change their sliders.

Where we haven’t seen this yet is that Google has upped this all one step further by asking the system to also change the colors of the icons to match them based on the wallpaper. This initial Android 12 leak showed exactly that, but we probably need an app icon update or for Google to reveal their plans before that can happen.

Either way, Android 12 has a number of great ideas to make its theme a beautiful experience unique to every user. I can’t wait for them to let us all activate and start playing.
