HBO says six Woody Allen movies available to stream on HBO Max will remain on the service after some online called on the streamer for hosting those films alongside the new documentary series “Allen v. Farrow ”.
“These titles will remain available in the library to allow viewers to make their own informed decisions about showing the work,” HBO said in a statement to TheWrap.
“Allen v. Farrow, ”which airs Sunday on HBO and airs on HBO Max, examines Dylan Farrow’s accusations of sexual abuse against his adoptive father Allen. Others online then noticed that six movies, including five featuring Mia Farrow, are all available on the streamer. While the movies are not displayed or promoted prominently, the movies available to stream on HBO Max for those looking for them are “Scoop”, “Broadway Danny Rose”, “Shadows and Fog”, “Radio Days”, ” Another Woman ”. and “September”.

“The privilege of whites is to let Woody Allen continue to air his films on HBO MAX, while maintaining a documentary on his alleged sexual abuse,” Ernest Media Empire reporter Ernest Owens said in a tweet. “He collects a check, while simultaneously being exposed on the same platform. Gross.”
“Which algorithm does it recommend after watching the documentary series,” another Twitter user said.
The question of whether problematic films or creator shows should stay on air or on streaming services is a discussion that has taken center stage in the entertainment world, with many acknowledging that films in particular are an art form. collaborative, and erasing or censoring a film also removes the work of dozens of other actors and professionals.
The directors of “Allen v. Farrow ”Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering were also asked about this specific conundrum with HBO Max in an interview with Variety released on Monday, as the film also links one of Allen’s most famous“ Manhattan ”films to the Allen’s alleged behavior.
“We talk about it in episode 4; we dig deeper into the decisions people have to make about consuming products. It’s something that a lot of people talk about struggling with. And that’s also why we want people to think and think about this, ”Ziering said. “I think there is a lot of art out there with a complicated biographical background. We invite people to make their own decisions. “

The series brings together court documents, interviews and home footage taken by her mother, Mia Farrow, including tapes where her then-7-year-old Dylan recounts being sexually assaulted by Allen in an attic of his home in Connecticut in 1992. The series re-examines Dylan’s Tale, both as a child and now as an adult, and the high-level custody battle that erupted between his parents after he fell in love with Farrow’s daughter, Soon-Yi Previn.
Allen has long denied Dylan’s accusations; he has never been charged with a crime after two criminal investigations into the case. On Sunday, he and Previn released their own statement about the series, calling it “hatchet work riddled with lies.”
“These documentary filmmakers had no interest in the truth. Instead, they spent years surreptitiously collaborating with the Farrows and their facilitators to put together a hatchet job riddled with lies, ”the statement said. “Woody and Soon-Yi were approached less than two months ago and have only had a few days to respond. Of course, they refused to do so.
“Allen v. Farrow ”premiered Sunday night on HBO at 9 p.m. ET / PT. Episodes 2-4 will air the following Sundays at the same time.
