Brett Ratner’s Milli Vanilli Biopic Dropped by Millennium Media

“Millennium will not sell the film to EFM or participate in the production,” reads a statement from Millennium Media and RatPac Entertainment by Brett Ratner.

News broke last week that Brett Ratner was lining up a directing project with Millennium Media with a long-running passion project centered on the controversial lip-syncing duo Milli Vanilli.

Plans were for it to be sold at the upcoming European Virtual Film Market, which runs March 1-5, and once launched it would mark Ratner’s first major project after facing complaints of sexual misconduct and of harassment by several women, including Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge. Ratner has denied the allegations.

On Wednesday afternoon, Millennium and RatPac Entertainment of Ratner released a joint statement that, in the wake of last week’s announcement, “the project has launched multiple tenders and a group of capital investors -investment has emerged which fully fund the film to begin production shortly. The statement also noted that Millennium is no longer involved in production and would no longer sell the film to the EFM. “There will be no additional comment,” one reads. He didn’t mention who the emerging private equity investors are.

The situation is reminiscent of what happened two years ago when it was revealed that Bryan Singer’s Millennium Project, Red sonja, was on hold and would no longer be sold to the EFM after being the subject of an article by Atlantic which included allegations of misconduct. A few months later, filmmaker and television creator Joey Soloway took over the project.

Ratner’s involvement in the Milli Vanilli project has led to an outcry online, particularly from Time’s Up.
