Publix will begin offering appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine at its 730 in-store pharmacies, the Lakeland grocer said Thursday.
As of Friday morning, Publix’s vaccine registration system will have the newly expanded availability and will include 136 new stores in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. The appointment system will also include slots in Citrus and Hernando counties, which had been put on hold due to delays in shipping vaccines last week.
“We are delighted to offer dating opportunities at each of our in-store pharmacies in Florida,” Todd Jones, CEO of Publix, said in a statement. “We know how important this vaccine is to the people we serve, and we are grateful that we can expand our capacity to help our communities during this time of need.”
Publix was the first retail pharmacy to partner with the state to deliver the Moderna vaccine in Florida. Now, Walmart and Winn-Dixie stores also carry the vaccine statewide.
Floridians 65 years of age or older or who work as frontline healthcare workers can get the vaccine from a retail pharmacist. Appointments can only be made through the Publix online system at publix.com/covidvaccine.
The new set of appointments will go live on Friday at 7 a.m.
Online booking systems will typically open with new appointments every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, according to Publix. But meeting slots at each launch vary and may not include all participating stores or counties.
