Mike Tyson is unhappy with a biographical series about his life that is heading to Hulu.
The streamer announced Thursday that it has given the green light to an 8-episode limited series titled “Iron Mike”, a program that will tell the life of the boxing icon.
The announcement didn’t go over well to Tyson, 54, who posted a statement on social media calling fans to “#BoycottHulu.”
“Hulu’s announcement to make an unauthorized miniseries of Tyson’s story without compensation, while unfortunate, is not surprising,” he began in the Instagram caption. “This announcement following social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu corporate greed has led to this muted cultural diversion of the tone of Tyson’s life story.

Tyson noted that the announcement was made during Black History Month, which “confirms Hulu’s concern for the dollars on respecting the rights of black stories.”
“Hollywood needs to be more sensitive to the experiences of black people, especially after everything that has happened in 2020,” the athlete continued. “The real story authorized by Mike Tyson is under development and will be announced in the coming days.”

Plus, he said the streamer’s effort “couldn’t be more inappropriate or dull.”
Photos shared with the post contained Hulu’s logo with a red cross across it, as well as an additional written statement, calling their limited-series order “heinous” and claiming it represented “the systemic racism that has tormented Hollywood throughout its existence “.

Further, he said the project was part of Hollywood’s “deaf attempts at diversity and inclusion,” adding that “behind closed doors, they [Hulu] steal stories from the black community. “
He doubled down on his feelings on Twitter.
“Really Hulu ?!” he tweeted. “Steal a black man story during Black History Month? #Corporategreed #boycotthulu.”

Hulu says the series, which hails from screenwriter Steven Rogers and director Craig Gillespie of “Me, Tonya,” will explore “the wild, tragic and controversial life and career behind one of sports culture’s most polarizing figures – heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. ”
It is currently unclear which project Tyson will release more information on in “the coming days,” although an athlete biopic is in the works with Jamie Foxx in the lead role. It is also currently unclear if Tyson is involved in the biopic.
