ORLANDO, Florida – South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, a Republican who has never shut down her state’s economy or certain aspects of the social life of her citizens, has torn New York Governor Cuomo apart as an ironic darling of media and Dr Anthony Fauci as being chronically proven wrong in his prescriptions and forecasts – in Saturday’s last speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
Noem recalled having been regularly criticized by the press and some Democrats as “ill-informed, reckless and even a” denier “.
“Some have even claimed that South Dakota is ‘as bad as anywhere in the world’ when it comes to COVID-19 – that’s a lie,” she said.
“The media did all of this while simultaneously praising the governors who issued lockdowns, mandatory masks and closed businesses, applauding them for taking the ‘right’ steps to mitigate the spread of the virus.
Noem then recalled an appearance in November 2020 on ABC News’ “This Week”, where host George Stephanopoulos asked previous guest Cuomo for advice to Noem, who had taken the opposite tact on the lockdowns that governors like the New York Democrat and other strict enforcement mechanisms.
“[Stephanopoulos] asked Cuomo to give I advice on how to deal with COVID. Seems like a good time to remind everyone what Governor Cuomo was doing in New York, ”she remarked, briefly delving into the details of the nursing home scandal now swirling in Albany.
She noted that in March, New York State ordered COVID patients to enter nursing homes before pushing for legislation banning prosecution at nursing homes for COVID deaths.
“Six days later, he banned nursing homes from sending COVID patients to the nearby naval hospital ship or the field hospital – both of which were essentially empty.”
President Trump had ordered “comfort” in Upper New York Harbor and Reverend Franklin Graham set up a field hospital in Central Park to help Cuomo and the emerging crisis in New York at the time.
“Eight days later, the first deaths started to appear,” Noem said.
Continuing to criticize Fauci, who has served on Trump and President Joe Biden’s coronavirus task force, and is currently leading the latter’s efforts, Noem said the NIH doctor routinely offered misguided advice and predictions.

“In South Dakota I provided all the information we had to our staff and then trusted them to make the best decisions for themselves [on how to prevent the spread of the virus] for their families and in turn for their communities, ”she said.
“We never focused on the number of cases. Instead, we kept an eye on the capacity of the hospital. Now Dr Fauci he told me that on my worst day I would have ten thousand patients in the hospital on our worst day we had just over six hundred. “
“I don’t know if you agree with me, but Dr Fauci is very wrong.”
Considered a rising star in the Trump-era GOP, Noem noted during her speech that while disappointed with the outcome of the 2020 election, she recognizes that the GOP suffered worse losses and rebounded.
She highlighted the 1964 presidential election, where Conservative Senator Barry Goldwater, R-Ariz., Suffered a crushing loss to incumbent President Lyndon B. Johnson – who won 486 electoral votes.
Goldwater came out of this race winning only his home state and most of the Deep South, with the exception of Florida.
She said the conservative movement, which many consider to have been first introduced by Goldwater, later saw “incredible innovation” following the landslide loss of 1964.
“It took the creation of many institutions, including the American Conservative Union, the National Right to Life, the Heritage Foundation, the Manhattan Institute, Concerned Women for America, the Federalist Society, the Family Research Council, and among others, It took a lot to change hearts and change your mind, ”she said.
“It was institutions like these that helped bring about the Reagan Revolution and bring back American exceptionalism. Their work is more important today than ever.
