Defensive end Carlos Dunlap was one of the most interesting things about the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020.
A modern, bona fide franchise, Dunlap forced its way out of town via commerce and even took a pay cut in the process to secure a deal with the Seattle Seahawks.
Fast forward to now, Dunlap may well be heading for free agency.
According to ESPN’s Brady Henderson, Dunlap is a cut candidate due to his cap of $ 14.1 million reached in 2021. A roster bonus of $ 3 million due on March 21 could play a role in his becoming a free agent.
It’s really all about the money for the Seahawks, as Dunlap was a force when he arrived in Seattle, generating five sacks and six tackles for a loss in eight appearances.
It would be interesting to think Dunlap is in the free market as the Bengals seek help rushing into free agencies. Not that either side would have any interest in a reunion, but the odd journey both sides took to get to this point is worth noting.
