Representative Eric Swalwell, one of the House impeachment officials, filed a lawsuit against former President Trump, saying he was to be held financially responsible for the destruction on January 6 when a crowd pro -Trump stormed the Capitol.
The California Democrat filed a 65-page lawsuit in Washington, DC, US District Court on Friday against Trump, his son Donald Trump Jr., his attorney Rudy Giuliani and GOP Representative Mo Brooks accusing them of having incited the January 6 riot and demanding that they be held accountable in court for the suffering that followed.

“The defendants have assembled, set the crowd on fire and incited, and as such bear full responsibility for the injury and destruction that followed,” Swalwell said in a statement regarding the lawsuit.
Swalwell’s lawsuit alleges nine counts against Trump and the others, ranging from conspiring to violate civil rights to intentionally inflicting emotional distress on Swalwell.
The lawsuit does not specify the amount of money and punitive damages that Swalwell is asking for. He calls for a jury trial.

Jason Miller, a senior Trump adviser, tore Swalwell apart in a statement to Fox News for the congressman’s ties to an alleged Chinese spy, known as Fang Fang or Christine Fang. Federal authorities alerted Swalwell to Fang’s activities around 2015 during a defensive briefing, Axios first reported.

Swalwell is not the first congressman to prosecute Trump for the January 6 riot. Representative Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., Filed a lawsuit in February, alleging that Trump was behind the violence that prevented Congress from certifying President Biden’s electoral college victory.
