Seahawks release passer Carlos Dunlap as likely victim

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Seattle Seahawks will cut veteran defensive end Carlos Dunlap today.

Seattle acquired Dunlap mid-last season for BJ Finney and a 7th-round pick in 2021 and he was one of the Seahawks’ most productive passers for the second half of the season.

Dunlap was a year older on his contract when the Seahawks acquired it, and he was to carry a cap of $ 14,037,500 with a dead cap number of $ 0 if he was cut. So John Schneider and the Seahawks’ makers felt that Dunlap, at his age and with the current cap situation, was not worth the $ 14 million price tag for one more season.

It has been said that the team are hoping to sign the 32-year-old again, albeit at a cheaper rate, but it’s just as possible that Dunlap will find a new home with a deal they want.

Now Seattle has about $ 14 million to spend this offseason to possibly protect Russell Wilson with an offensive lineman who signs a free agent, or spend elsewhere.
