Among them: Archie, her now nearly two-year-old son with husband Prince Harry, has not been offered royal titles or protection.
As she got pregnant with him, Meghan said, she was told the royal family didn’t want the baby to have a prince / princess title. This meant that he would not receive any of the guarantees usually given to royal children.
The logic coming from The Firm (as the royals are often referred to) seemed to be that because he wouldn’t be a prince wouldn’t need protection, Meghan said.
“He has to be safe,” she told Oprah. “If you say the headline is what’s going to affect their protection – we didn’t create this monster machine around us, in terms of clickbait and tabloid fodder. You have [The Firm] allowed that to happen, which means our son needs to be safe.
She did not say who in the royal family made those decisions.

Archie’s title itself wasn’t particularly important to the couple, Meghan said. “All the grandeur that surrounds this stuff is an attachment that I don’t really have.”
But in addition to learning that their baby would not be protected, it also seemed to them that the rules were changed in a way that would negatively affect their child.
There was “the idea that our son was not safe, and also the idea that the first colored member of this family does not have the same title as the other grandchildren.”
It was hard not to consider Meghan’s race and the baby’s race, she said, due to other conversations she knew were going on in the background.
Did that mean, Oprah asked, that if the baby was “too brown, would that be a problem?”
“I couldn’t explain why with this, but if that’s the assumption you’re making, I think it sounds pretty safe,” Meghan said. “Which is really hard to understand.”
