Buckingham Palace released its first statement on Tuesday since Prince Harry and Meghan’s shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey. In it, Queen Elizabeth says: “The whole family is saddened to learn how difficult the past few years have been for Harry and Meghan.”
“The questions raised, in particular that of race, are worrying,” the statement continued. “While some memories may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family in private. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
While the interview aired in the United States on Sunday, it only aired Monday night in Britain.
Meghan said in the interview that there had been “several conversations” within the Royal Family about the “dark color” of their baby’s skin. Oprah confirmed to “CBS This Morning” that Harry said these conversations did not imply Queen Elizabeth or her husband Prince Philip.
It’s a story of rupture. It will be updated.
