Resident Evil 2 banned in China, sellers use smart tips to sell it anyway – Game Rant

China is notoriously strict about the type of video games it lets its citizens play, often banning violent and bloody games. Given this, it's not a surprise Resident Evil 2 has been banned in China, but even if the game is not "officially" available, some online providers have anyhow used clever tips to sell it on this site.

Various Chinese sellers have sold Resident Evil 2 using different illustrations and titles to avoid the attention of government authorities. Among the different titles they offer, we find: First day of work at the police station: Remake, Come beat me 2, Fried Cold Rice 2, and Biochemical crisis, according to a report by Abacus News. The sellers also called the game January 25, which was its world release date.

Another way sellers in China were selling Resident Evil 2 is announcing it as a totally different game. For example, a vendor has sold what some might think are copies of side-scrolling software. Little nightmares game but are really the Resident Evil 2 remake. Another did the same thing except with Plants against Zombies instead of Little nightmares.

It seems that these sellers are doing this regularly, and there does not seem to have been any major crackdown by the government authorities. Although the Chinese government apparently does not seem to be serious enough to effectively enforce its bans, it is unlikely to prevent it from continuing to ban various video games in the region.

One of the most recent examples of banning a video game by China concerns Fortnite. The popular title of royal battle, while being much less violent than the Resident Evil 2 remake, was also deemed inappropriate by the government for Chinese citizens. Despite this ban, it is virtually a guarantee that many people in China are playing the most popular royal battle game in the world anyway.

Maybe one day China will loosen up its restrictions on video games and allow its citizens to buy legitimate copies of titles such as Resident Evil 2. In the meantime, Chinese sellers will likely continue to offer clever tips for continuing to sell banned games anyway.

Resident Evil 2 is now available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
