Lee Radziwill, the glamorous younger sister of former first lady Jacqueline Lee Kennedy, spent her life as an elegant and fashionable jet setter. Radziwill died of natural causes in Manhattan Friday at the age of 85, reported Sunday the Associated Press.
"We are heartbroken and we will miss our dear friend, rest in peace, Lee Radziwill", fashion designer Tory Burch tweeted a day earlier.
Radziwill was born Caroline Lee Bouvier of Janet Norton Lee and John "Black Jack" Bouvier on March 3, 1933. She attended the Miss Porter School and Sarah Lawrence College, and was introduced into society in 1950. The voice at the husky voice of his older sister's affinity for fashion and globetrotting, as well as his dark, broad eyes and high cheekbones.
Radziwill was extremely close to Kennedy Onassis and often went to the White House before the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. She was with the president on her trip to London in 1961 and Kennedy was the godfather of Radziwill's daughter, Anna Christina.
The wardrobe of Kennedy Onassis's trip to Paris in 1961, which would become an emblematic moment of the first lady, was chosen by Radziwill.
Her highly admired fashion sense earned her to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for Best International Costumes in 1996, according to Vanity Fair.
Although it was emblematic itself, Radziwill's restricted circle was equally elitist, especially with the artist Andy Warhol, the writer Truman Capote and the ballet dancer Rudfolf Nureyev.
She has also held various roles at Giorgio Armani, including as brand ambassador and public relations manager, reported Vanity Fair. Radziwill has also touched on theater and interior design.
Radziwill began working on a film with Peter Beard, collage artist and photographer, about his childhood in East Hampton, New York State. But after some creative evolutions and the introduction of filmmakers Albert and David Maysles, he became "Gray Gardens", the classic documentary about his aunt and eccentric cousin.
Edith Bouvier Beale and her eponymous daughter were immortalized in the 1975 film, which later became a Broadway musical and an Emmy award-winning HBO movie.
Although her life was filled with adventure and glamor, she was also marked by tragedy. His son, Anthony Radziwill, died of cancer at the age of 40 on August 10, 1999, less than a month after the death of his nephew, John F. Kennedy Jr.
Radziwill is married three times. First, in 1953, to Michael Canfield, editor. The couple then moved to England for several years before the annulment of their marriage.
In 1959, Radziwill married the Polish aristocrat Prince Stanislaw Albrecht Radziwill. After their marriage, the title of Radziwill became "His Serene Highness", according to W Magazine. The couple had two children and divorced in 1974.
Radziwill would marry for the third time with filmmaker Herbert Ross, but divorced again in 2001. After his third divorce, Radziwill took over the name of his second marriage, which was the same name as his children.
