Crusader Kings 3: Northern Lords will add a Viking flavor this week, along with a major free update

Crusader Kings 3 developers Paradox Interactive teased a big free 1.3 update over the past month, an update that would expand duels, bring snow, and throw in randomly generated poetry.

We now know these additions will be arriving this week alongside the Northern Lords flavor pack, which adds Nordic-themed content including new events and Viking hair styles.

Announced during tonight’s Paradox Insider stream, Northern Lords is a “flavor pack” rather than a full expansion. It adds new art for Nordic characters, including clothing, hairstyles and beards, new music, new ship models, and new events inspired by Nordic culture.

The free update is the most substantial part of what’s to come, but the addition of winter obviously goes well enough with a focus on the freezing north. Winters can be mild, normal, or harsh, the latter causing your troops to take more fatal losses in combat. I’m from freezing Scotland and once broke my wrist sliding on ice, but maybe I was lucky enough to survive.

The free update and the Northern Lords pack will arrive this Tuesday, March 16. The Northern Lords pack will cost £ 5.19 / € 7.

Vikings are feeling pretty fashionable right now, between the latest Assassin’s Creed, the vast success of Valheim, and upcoming indie games like Nordic city builder Frozenheim. Presumably, they will soon be doing the dishes on the Verdansk shore.
