SALT LAKE CITY – A red-tailed black cockatoo that escaped from the Tracy aviary on Friday was located nearby on Saturday morning.
A spokesperson for the aviary said the cockatoo, named Matilda, was “flying with her caretaker when she was caught in a gust of wind and washed away” on the property on Friday afternoon around 3pm. of the aviary.
“Many thanks to our community for your support and kind words during this stressful time,” the aviary wrote on Facebook, adding that its employees had spent a “long night” in search of the bird.
UPDATE! MATILDA HAS BEEN FOUND! It’s been a long night for everyone involved – it’s nap! We are happy to leave …

This isn’t the first time Aviary Tracy has had to deal with the renegade cockatoo. Matilda also escaped from the aviary in January 2020, only to be found safe in a tree in nearby Liberty Park.
Matilda first escaped in 2013, when she was less than a year old, and was not recovered for three days.
