Stephen Curry sustained a tailbone contusion in the Golden State Warriors’ win on Wednesday over the Houston Rockets, and the team ruled him out of the game midway through the fourth quarter. The game itself took place at the end of the third quarter. Curry managed to shake Kevin Porter Jr. in order to create a 3-point attempt, but lost control of his back swing.
Curry seemed to think there would be something behind him to slow him down, but there wasn’t. He came across some metal stairs near the pitch where the fans would normally have been and appeared to be in real pain.
The Warriors have hung on to beat the Rockets without Curry, but they can’t afford an extended absence. At 21-20, they are currently seeded No. 9 in the Western Conference, which puts them in a position to make the play-in round. They’re three games behind the Portland Trail Blazers, the current No.6 seed, and catching them to escape the play-in round even with a healthy Curry wouldn’t be an easy task.
The Warriors have struggled to generate good shots when Curry leaves the game this season, so any missed games would be extremely difficult for them to deal with. There is no timeline for Curry’s recovery as of yet, although luckily the bruises aren’t particularly severe. The Warriors play again Friday in Memphis. The Grizzlies are directly behind them in the standings, so a healthy curry will be needed if they plan to create a split.
